Medicare

Medicare Advantage (Part C)

One card, a network, and a yearly ceiling on what you can lose.

A Medicare Advantage plan is private insurance that takes over delivering your Medicare benefits. It must cover at least what Original Medicare covers, and it usually bundles prescriptions plus extras — dental, vision, hearing, fitness — into a single plan with a low or zero monthly premium.

The trade is access. Advantage plans work through networks and may require referrals or prior authorization. In exchange you get something Original Medicare does not have at all: a hard annual limit on your out-of-pocket costs.

What gets bundled in

One card instead of three, and a ceiling Original Medicare does not have.

Parts A & B
Hospital and outpatient care, delivered through the plan
Drugs
Usually included, so no separate Part D plan
Extras
Dental, vision, hearing, fitness — varies a lot by plan
Network
The trade you make for all of the above

Lengths show how much of your care each piece accounts for, not value or cost. The last row is the constraint, not a benefit — check your own doctors against the network before anything else.

Illustrative structure only. Figures shown are not typical or predictive.

This is probably you if…

  • Your doctors are already in the plan's network and you intend to stay local
  • A low monthly premium matters more to you than an unrestricted choice of provider
  • You want prescriptions, dental and vision bundled into one plan and one card
  • You are comfortable reviewing the plan every year, because the details change

What this includes

The scope of work, in plain terms.

Your doctors, checked

Every physician you intend to keep, run against the plan's network before you enrol — not after.

The out-of-pocket ceiling

Every Advantage plan has an annual maximum. It varies a great deal between plans, and it is the number worth comparing.

What the extras are worth

Bundled dental and vision benefits differ enormously in what they actually pay. We read the limits, not the brochure.

Reviewed every fall

Networks and formularies are set annually. A plan that fit you this year may not next year, and the window to move is short.

What to expect

  1. 01 A conversation What coverage you have now, whether you are still working, and when your window opens. Nothing to prepare and nothing to sign.
  2. 02 Your doctors and your prescriptions We check your prescriptions and your doctors against the plans available where you live. This is the step most people skip and most regret skipping.
  3. 03 Options side by side You see the real trade-offs between the paths open to you, including the ones that are hard to reverse later. Then you decide.
  4. 04 Every fall, we look again Plans change their formularies and networks each year. We review yours before the December deadline, whether or not anything changes.
